Joseph Edward Beland, 94, of Alpena passed away Friday, Feb. 10, 2023, at home. Joseph was born Feb. 28, 1928, in Alpena to the late Joseph and Wilma (Diem) Beland. He served in the United States Army at the end of World War II in Korea. Joe graduated from college at Stout Institute in Menomonie, Wisconson, with a BS in Industrial Education in 1953. After graduation, Joe and his wife Kay moved to Big Rapids where he taught Industrial Arts. He continued his graduate work in the summers to receive his MS in Industrial Education from Stout in 1957. Douglas Allen Grzeskowiak, 59, of Ossineke passed away Friday, Feb. 10, 2023, at home. Douglas was born Jan. 23, 1964, in Alpena to Joseph and Diana (Egelski) Grzeskowiak. Doug was a great son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a father figure to his nephews Joey and Logan, who will miss him tremendously. He was always there to lend a helping hand or come to the rescue. His passion was working on cars. He found his dream job working for Dallas Mustang in Texas. WALKER, Jess A., 66, of Harrisville, died Feb. 8, 2023, at his home. Jess is survived by his wife, Jeanette, two sons, Matthew, and Michael (Stephanie) Walker, six grandchildren, Devon Seymour, and Amiyah, Caden, and Brady, and Travis and Camille, one brother, Dexter, many nieces and nephews, and his mother-in-law, Martha Jean Mendyka. Cremation arrangements were made through Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln. Per Jess’ wishes, no services are planned.

Kathleen Margaret Cousineau was born in Detroit on Jan. 28, 1942, to the late Elmer and Margaret (O’Harra) Cousineau. She married Robert Benson on Aug. 30, 1981. Alice Welling Schaffer, 82, passed away peacefully on Feb. 3, 2023 in Savannah, Georgia. She was born on July 19, 1940 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to Raymond and Margaret Welling. Her family moved to Syracuse, New York when she was young and she attended SUNY Oswego, where she took art classes from Roy Lichtenstein, and graduated with a teaching degree in 1962.
