Alpena drops 2 to Mt. Pleasant

MT. PLEASANT — The Alpena High baseball team took a pair of losses over the weekend to Mt. Pleasant, losing 8-2 and 12-1 on the road.

Travis Weide took the loss for Alpena in game one and Alex Cadarette and Cam Potter accounted for both of Alpena’s hits.

In the second game, Keegan Hahn took the loss and Charlie Williams had Alpena’s only hit.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

ACC wins 3 of 4 in weekend games

The Alpena Community College softball team took three of four games from Macomb last weekend.

In the first game, ACC (4-15) won 6-1 after five strong innings in the circle from Lilly Lewis, a two-run home run from Paige Wooden and a single home run from Aubree Sheldon. Dayna LaBell, Sheldon and Jade Schultz each had RBI hits earlier in the game.

Schultz pitched a complete game shutout in the second game and struck out five. She also accounted for the game’s only RBI, scoring LaBell with a hit to center field.

ACC rallied in the third game, scoring all five its runs in the sixth inning. Holly Kussrow cleared the bases with a double and ACC took advantage of several walks to hang on for a 5-4 win.

Macomb scored five runs in the top of the first inning of the fourth game and ultimately won 10-6. ACC got three hits each from Wooden, Sheldon and Mollie Girard. Wooden had a two-run single in the third inning, Sheldon had a two-run single in the fifth inning and Kussrow had a two-run single in the seventh inning.

ACC will host Delta on Friday at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Alpena High School. The Lumberjacks will host St. Clair on Saturday at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. and on Sunday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

JV BASEBALL

Alpena goes 2-2 in weekend action

The Alpena High JV baseball team went 2-2 in games play on Friday and Saturday.

Alpena lost to Mt. Pleasant 3-2 and 5-3 on Saturday and topped Cheboygan 12-1 and 14-4 on Friday.

Against Mt. Pleasant, Tucker Bright and Gabe Glawe had two hits each for Alpena and Jake Zann threw six innings with three strikeouts in the first game. In the second game, Brady Kollen and Brady Pagels were among those to split pitching duties for Alpena and Bright had one hit.

In the opener against Cheboygan on Friday, Zann had three hits and five RBI to lead Alpena. Glawe added two hits and Kaleb Donajkowski and Bryce Moe each had two RBI. In the second game, Nick Lusardi and Brady Pagels each had two hits for Alpena and Lusardi had two RBI.
