LOCAL SPORTS ROUNDUP: Alpena icers fall to TC West; Onaway’s Pearson reaches 1,000 career points

TRAVERSE CITY–The Titans scored three unanswered goals–one in the first period and two in the second period–before Alpena (3-10-1) scored in the third period. Alpena’s goal came from Elijah White, with assists from Jack Rea and James Kuhl.
Alpena plays Traverse City on Saturday.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Onaway 48, Pellston 40
ONAWAY–Kevin Pearson sank a three-pointer to reach the 1,000 career point mark and finished with 15 points for Onaway (10-3), which won its fifth straight game on Senior Night. Spencer Nash added 11 for the Cardinals, who trailed 21-18 at halftime, clung to a 28-27 lead after three quarters and pulled away from Pellston in the final quarter.
Onaway plays at Alanson on Monday.
Hillman 65, Atlanta 19
HILLMAN–Trenton Taratuta scored 22 points, Brady Firman had nine and the Tigers (8-6, 6-3 North Star League) turned in another good defensive performance en route to a win. Hillman built a 13-4 lead and cruised from there. Dawson Currie led Atlanta with six points.
Hillman hosts Oscoda on Monday.

OSCODA–Owen Franklin and Drew Hess had 13 points each for the Owls (13-0). Brennon Mills added 11 points for Oscoda and Michael Gepfrey had nine.
Oscoda hosts Midland Calvary Baptist on Saturday.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Hillman 49, Atlanta 13
HILLMAN–Saige Flaugher had 12 points for the Tigers (9-4) and Julia Taratuta and Nicole Barbeau each added nine as every one of Hillman’s varsity players scored in the Friday win.
Hillman plays at Oscoda on Monday.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Alpena 69, Delta 58
ALPENA–Jade Schultz had 27 points and 12 rebounds to help the Lumberjacks (1-6) win their first game this season.
“It was a big win for the girls. They played hard from start to finish,” ACC coach Bobby Allen said. “It was outstanding team play for everyone. I’m proud of how they handled the pressure from Delta and relied on each other.”

Delta 100, Alpena 58
ALPENA–Chris DeRocher had 15 points and 14 rebounds for Alpena, but the Lumberjacks (1-6) dug themselves too deep a hole to climb out of on Friday to rally back. Cleveland Baker added 15 points for ACC and Adam Urlaub had 11 rebounds.
