ACC schooled by the Ocelots

LIVONIA — Wednesday marked another tough night for the Alpena Community College men’s and women’s basketball teams as the Lumberjacks were on the receiving end of a pair of blowout losses on the road.

The men struggled and fell by a score of 103-62.

“Schoolcraft is one of the top teams in the league and one of the best in the nation,” ACC coach Mark Jacobs said. “To beat them we need to play an almost perfect game.”

Garret Miller led the Lumberjacks with 18 points. Logan Guenther finished with 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Isaac Hogsett had 13 points and dished out five assists and Chris DeRocher added 13 points.

The ACC women didn’t fare much better, losing 75-39.

The second half was the difference for the Lumberjacks as they were held to just 17 points in the final two quarters.

“We came out and played with them early, but their speed caught up to us in the third and fourth quarters,” ACC coach Bobby Allen said. “I’m proud of how well the girls played once again being shorthanded and only having six players available.”

Both the men and women will be back in action on Saturday when the Lumberjacks host Delta Community College.
