Posen stays hot with win against Hale

POSEN — Tenacious defense and fast paced offense has been the recipe for recent success for the Posen girls basketball team and the trends continue on Wednesday as the Vikings blew out Hale by a final score of 57-13.

Posen got off to a fast start and never looked back.

“Our press worked good tonight when we were in it and our half court defense was good,” Posen coach Karl Momrik said. “We scored a lot of points off of our press and overall it was a good team effort.”

Elena Kalbitzer scored a game high 19 points to lead the Vikings and Riley Krajniak finished with 10 points.

Posen improved to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in North Star League play.

The Vikings return to their home floor on Friday when they welcome NSL foe Hillman.

Fairview 41,

Mio 39

FAIRVIEW — The Fairview Eagles took a lead early in Tuesday’s game and despite letting the game get close, Fairview held on to defeat Mio 41-39.

The Eagles held a 20-11 halftime lead, but saw the lead shrink in the late stages of the contest, but were able to hang on and prevail despite getting outscored in the final two quarters.

Kaitlyn Bowers led Farivew scoring a game high 19 points. Jess Ross added nine points and Jaedyn Winton added eight points.

Mio was led by Phynix Rickett who finished with 16 points.

WRESTLING

Hurons go 1-1 at home

ROGERS CITY — The Rogers City wrestling team took the good with that bad on Wednesday, going 1-1 in a pair of home duals.

Rogers City defeated Ogemaw Heights 42-30 and lost to Oscoda 40-25.

Against Ogemaw, Rogers City got wins from Clayton Henry (171) by pin in 3:55; Damian Segorski (189) by void; Hayden Hentkowski (112) by pin in 2:43; Caden Fenstermaker (119) by pin in 4:35; Isaac Hein (145) by pin in 2:50; Austin Bielas (152) by pin in 23 seconds and Anthony Paull (160) by pin in 4:46.

Against Oscoda, Rogers City got wins from Paull (160) by pin in 1:22; Segorski (189) by void; Hentkowski (103) in a 13-5 decision; Fenstermaker (112) by pin in 1:38 and Hein (145) who won a 7-4 decision.

“We wrestled very well on Parents Night,” Rogers City coach Rob Kortman said.
