PREP ROUNDUP: Atlanta boys, girls hoops teams top Charlton Heston

ST. HELEN–Zach Roux’s timely scoring led the Atlanta boys basketball team to victory on Wednesday.

Roux scored a key basket late to tie the game at 52 at the end of regulation and then scored all four of Atlanta’s points in overtime to give the Huskies a 56-52 win over Charlton Heston.

Roux finished with 22 points, 19 rebounds and six steals, stepping up offensively on a night when the Huskies (2-2) were without starter Aaron Cuzzort.

“We didn’t have a good first half. I wasn’t sure how the offense was going to operate without Aaron and we struggled a little bit,” Atlanta coach Kevin Haren said. “We pretty much kept feeding Zach in the post.”

Trace Juergens added 14 points and three steals for Atlanta.

The Huskies return to action on Jan. 6 when they host Posen.

Atlanta 32,

Charlton Heston 26

Abbey LaPorte scored 11 points and added 10 rebounds as Atlanta topped Charlton Heston 32-26 to snap a three-game losing streak.

“This one went down to the wire. It was defense (that was key). We played good defense all night and got a lot of steals,” Atlanta coach Jeremy Kobielus said.

Jordan Kobielus added eight points, five rebounds and two blocks for the Huskies (1-3) and Tanaysja Tidwell had four points and seven steals.

The Huskies return to action on Jan. 6 when they host Posen.
