PREP ROUNDUP: Wildcats fall to West; Domke leads Cards in win

TRAVERSE CITY–The Alpena High volleyball team came out on the losing end against Traverse City West on Tuesday, dropping a Big North Conference match in four sets: 12-25, 25-21, 12-25 and 21-25.

Edie Zann had 12 kills and five blocks for Alpena; Emma Dockrill had eight kills and two aces; Kate Skiba had 16 digs and seven kills and Macy Dickinson had three blocks, 12 digs, 32 assists and seven kills.

Alpena’s freshmen team lost 16-25, 25-22, 26-24 and Alpena’s JV team lost 24-26, 23-25, 17-25.

Forest Area 1

FIFE LAKE–Breya Domke turned in another dominant performance, tying her own record for kills in a match as the Onaway volleyball team rolled to a three-set win over Fife Lake Forest Area on Tuesday.

Onaway won 25-9, 25-21, 25-12.

Domke recorded 25 kills, six aces and eight digs in the win. She previously set a new record for kills in a match in a five-set win over Indian River Inland Lakes, but did it in three sets this time.

Jordan Larson added 10 digs for Onaway and Mallorie Neelis had 31 assists, five aces and eight digs. Malaisha Van added four kills and four digs and Jackie Sellke had four kills and three assists. Jazmyn Friant chipped in with four digs.

The Cardinals had an up-and-down day on Saturday during a tournament at Morley-Stanwood.

Onaway lost to Tri-County (25-12, 13-25, 11-15), Montague (19-25, 10-25) and White Cloud (21-25, 24-26). The Cardinals came away with victories over Lakeview (25-18, 26-24) and Frankfort (25-17, 25-17).

The victory over the Panthers gave Watson his 500th career victory.

Domke finished the day with 41 kills, six aces and 28 digs. Neelis had six kills, 56 assists and 29 digs. Malaurie McLean had 10 kills and 30 digs, Chloe Ehrke had 14 kills, six aces and 26 digs and Lexi Horton had five kills, eight aces and nine digs.

Hurons lead the pack in Oscoda

OSCODA–A pair of Rogers City runners took top honors at a North Star League Jamboree in Oscoda on Tuesday.

Matt Wilbert won the boys race in 19:31.42, more than three seconds ahead of Hale’s Logan Lewis.

Alcona’s Brett Nelson was third (19:41.73), Fairview’s Nathaniel Eastman was fourth (19:59.26) and Fairview’s Logan Alchin was fifth (20:22.10).

Nina Hansen won the girls race in 21:51.59, finishing a few seconds ahead of teammate Morgan Baller (21:58.50).

Alcona’s Sara Decker was third (23:40.01), Rogers City’s Cheyenne Bober was fourth (24:04.85) and Alcona’s Karen Sharboneau was fifth (24:26.50).
