PREP ROUNDUP: Mio rolls past Atlanta on gridiron

ATLANTA — The Atlanta football team had a rough night on the gridiron Thursday as the Huskies were on the receiving end of a 62-6 shellacking at the hands of Mio.

Aaron Cuzzort was 6-of-12 passing for 125 yards, but was intercepted five times. Cuzzort did score Atlanta’s only touchdown on the ground as he carried the ball 15 times for 42 yards.

Trace Juergens led the Huskies rushing attack with 75 yards on six carries and Matt Myers caught three passes for 100 yards.

Defensively, Dalton Forrester record 19 tackles.

Atlanta falls to 1-2 overall on the year.

VOLLEYBALL

Onaway 3,

Charlevoix 0

CHARLEVOIX — The Onaway volleyball team put together what head coach Steve Watson believed was its first complete match of the season as the Cardinals earned a road sweep at Charlevoix, winning by scores of 25-20, 25-23 and 25-20.

Onaway was led by Breya Domke who had 19 digs and 15 kills. Mallory Neelis dished out 18 assists, finished with 14 digs and six kills. Malaurie McLean recorded 14 digs, Cloe Ehrke had 10 digs and a pair or kills, Jackie Sellke added 12 digs, two kills and two assists and Lexi Horton chipped in with four aces.

“I’ve been waiting for a day like today. We haven’t a complete 25 point set and tonight was a pretty complete match,” Watson said. “Tonight was a pretty complete match and overall I was very pleased. We were a lot closer to doing what we’re capable of.”

The Cardinals improve to 7-8-1 overall and will host Inland Lakes on Tuesday.

W-P 3, Hillman 1

HILLMAN–The Hillman volleyball team got off to a strong start, but sputtered after that and ultimately lost to Whittemore-Prescott in four sets on Thursday: 25-18, 14-25, 16-25 and 19-25.

Angelina Hunt had three aces, three assists, 19 digs and a kill for Hillman; Emalie Us had four digs and three kills; Makenna Grulke had 11 digs and 12 kills; Melanie Morrison had 14 digs; Rebecca Nuff had six aces, seven assists, 17 digs and three kills and Ellie Crawford had 12 digs, one kill and one assist.

Posen 3, Fairview 1

FAIRVIEW–The Posen volleyball team defeated Fairview in four sets Thursday winning 25-19, 25-16, 18-25 and 25-22.

Madison Menzel led Posen with seven kills, seven aces and four blocks; Makayla Kamyszek had four kills, eight assists, three digs and three blocks; Riley Krajniak had six kills, six digs and an ace and Ava Wesner had three kills, nine assists, and two aces.

The girls were hitting the ball really well tonight, attempting 75 attacks, and found the open holes in Fairview’s defense,” Posen coach Michelle Mulka-Styma said. “(We) still have to work on our serve receiving and covering our holes on our defensive. But (I’m) very proud of the girls for coming back for the win in the fourth game.”
