PREP ROUNDUP: Alpena’s Weide throws perfect game
CADILLAC–Travis Weide threw a perfect game, Keegan Hahn threw a one-hit shutout and the Alpena JV baseball team had an easy day against Cadillac on Tuesday, topping the Vikings 10-0 (six innings) and 11-0 (six innings).
Weide’s perfect game came in the nightcap and was highlighted by a 14-strikeout effort from the freshman pitcher.
At the plate, Hahn was 2-for-4, Matt Thompson had a triple and Victor Chen was 2-for-4.
In the opener, Hahn pitched a complete game, walking just one while fanning 11.
Chen was 3-for-3; Thompson was 2-for-4 with a triple; Weide was 2-for-3 with a double and Kam Potter and Kadyn Budnick both went 1-for-1.
Alpena improves to 11-1 overall and 4-0 in Big North Conference play. The Wildcats play at Tawas on Thursday.
JV SOFTBALL
Alpena routs Cadillac
CADILLAC–Allison Urlaub threw a no-hitter, Elysa Kelley threw a shutout and the Alpena JV softball team made quick work of Cadillac on Tuesday, topping the Vikings 25-0 (three innings) and 17-0 (three innings).
In the nightcap, Urlaub faced just nine batters en route to her no hitter and struck out five of them.
At the plate, Gabriella Smith was 2-for-3 with a triple.
In the opener, Kelley struck out two, walked none and allowed just one hit.
At the plate, Ally Frantz had two hits.
Alpena improves to 13-3 overall and 4-0 in Big North Conference play. The Wildcats are scheduled to host Sault Ste. Marie on Wednesday.
