Hillman girls earn first win

HILLMAN — Getting that first win of the season took longer than the Hillman girls basketball team had hoped for, but on Tuesday, the Tigers were victorious, defeating Fairview by a final score of 52-13.

Hillman got off to a fast start early and never looked back as the Tigers led 26-4 after one quarter and held a 42-8 halftime lead behind Brooke Jones’ 25 first half points.

Jones finished the game with a career-high 28 points and Bailey Schook finished with 11 points.

“We got off to a fast start and we executed much better. We played fast and the girls have been working extremely hard so getting this first win is a good feeling,” Hillman coach John Kuzewski said.

The Tigers are now 1-6 overall on the year and are still going through the pains in what has been rebuilding year, but Kuzewski hopes that Tuesday’s win can provide some much needed confidence for his team going forward.

“We’ve always had a lot of success within the program. It’s been different for all of us so far this year, but tonight was a good win for us and a good win for these girls on this team and I’m happy with the way they played and very happy for them because of the hard work they have put in,” Kuzewski said.

Hillman will be back in action on Friday when it travels to plays Au Gres.
