Lumberjacks drop weekend games on the road

ESCANABA — The Alpena Community College men’s basketball team dropped a pair of games above the bridge this weekend.

On Saturday the Lumberjacks fell to Bay College by a final score of 116-76.

Tim Hopkins led ACC with 20 points. Garett Miller added 13 points, Oliver Rice finished with 11 points, Isaac Hogsett recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds and Logan Guenther also had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

On Sunday, the Lumberjacks lost to Gogebic College 83-71.

Hopkins once again scored 20 points in the losing effort. Guenther recorded another double-double with 15 points and 18 rebounds. Rice and Miller each added 10 points apiece.

“It was an extremely frustrating weekend for us. When we play together as a team we look very good and it’s a fun team to watch. When we try to do too much individual stuff, the complete opposite is true,” ACC coach Mark Jacobs said. “We had a couple of freshman who were thrown into the fire this weekend due to injuries and they proved that they can help us both offensively and defensively. We’ve got to regroup quickly because conference play begins Thursday. I haven’t given up for on second on these guys. We’ll continue to battle until we right the ship.”

The ACC women also dropped a pair of games.

The Lumberjacks fell to Bay College 76-49 on Saturday.

Taylor Livingston led Alpena with 17 points and Shelby Seaver had 10 points.

The Lumberjacks also fell on Sunday, losing to Gogebic by a score of 65-48.

“We played well in the first quarters of both games, but kind of struggled late,” ACC coach Bobby Allen said. “The girls played well and didn’t give up and I’m proud of their effort.”
