BIG RAPIDS — The Alpena Community College cross country team began its season this past Saturday in Big Rapids at the Ray Helsing Invitational. Six Lumberjacks ran at the collegiate level for the first time on Ferris’s soggy home course.

“Our goal for this meet was to set a benchmark and improve weekly from here,” ACC coach Mark Jacobs said. “My guys had a great day and I couldn’t be prouder. Our top five were within 1:37 of each other which is outstanding for so early in the season.”

Tylor Ross (Fairview) ran an outstanding race in leading the Lumberjacks with a time of 30:07. Following Ross was John Siegert (Ludington) with a time of 30:39. Caleb Burger (Alpena) ran a 30:52 in his first ever race. Rounding out the team were Mason Kaniszewski (Tawas) 31:25, Aidan Francis (Memphis) 31:44, Dallin Toth (Alpena) 32:45 and Camren DeCaire (Alpena) 41:13.

The Lumberjacks head to Michigan State next Friday for the Spartan Invitational.
