Wildcats shoot new tournament bests in opener

The Alpena High girls golf team opened up the 2017 season in Grayling recently with three of the team members shooting their best tournament rounds ever. The Wildcats were led by freshmen Kennedy Ellis who shot 120 and Gwyn Kollian who posted a 138.

Senior Mikayla Williams smashed her best tournament round by more than 25 strokes.

Alpena returns to action in the Big North Conference later this week at Traverse City West. The Cats will be represented by Courtney Nunneley, Maddie Parr, Brynna Smith in addition to Ellis, Kollien and Williams.

BOYS SOCCER

Alcona 3, Gaylord 3

The Alcona soccer team played to a 3-3 tie with Gaylord on Tuesday.

Jordan Steiner netted a hat trick for the Tigers and Connor McCoy had 26 saves.

VOLLEYBALL

Alcona goes 1-2 in Roscommon quad

ROSCOMMON–The Alcona volleyball team played in a quad in Roscommon on Tuesday and finished 1-2.

Alcona lost to Petoskey (12-25, 10-25) and also lost to Roscommon (7-25, 16-25), but rallied to defeat Vestaburg in three sets (25-21, 15-25, 15-11).

Lily Sager and Hailee Gordy had 12 kills each for the Tigers.
