Wildcats fall to Ogemaw; Hillman tops Atlanta in pre-district game

WEST BRANCH–The Alpena baseball team lost a doubleheader against Ogemaw Heights Tuesday. The Wildcats lost the opener 1-0 and the nightcap 5-3.

In the opener, Alpena’s Lucas Crosby and Ben Budnik shared the pitching duties with no walks, one strikeout and four hits between them. Chandler Lantz and Bruz Copping had one hit each.

In the nightcap, Cam DeCaire pitched the first three innings with Logan Guthrie taking over for two and a third innings. He struck out the first six batters he faced, allowing just two unearned runs in the fifth inning. Copping took over as the relief pitcher for the last two thirds of the sixth inning. Bailey Marquardt had two of the four team hits for the night with one of them being a home run.

Alpena hosts Marquette in the district game on Friday at 1 p.m.

Hillman beats Atlanta in pre-district

HILLMAN–The Hillman baseball team won its pre district game against Atlanta 9-2 on Tuesday.

Kyle Moir pitched six innings for Hillman with no hits, five strikes and fourteen strikeouts. Jared Juergens pitched the last inning with no hits and two strikouts.

Caine Hunt was 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored; Juergens was 1-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored; Moir was 3-for-3 with a run scored and three RBI and Nash Steinke was 2-for-2 with a run scored.

Cardinals in twinbill

WHITTEMORE–The Rogers City baseball team kept its hold on the North Star League title with a pair of wins over Whittemore-Prescott on Tuesday.

The Hurons won the opener 21-8 and won the nightcap 14-1.

In the opener, Alex Altman pitched the first three innings for the Hurons, allowing one earned run and four hits. Kaleb Budnick pitched the final three innings and allowed five earned runs.

Andrew Radke and Brendan Koss each went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.

In the nightcap, Alex Altman pitched a complete game allowing no earned runs and six hits with five strikeouts in five innings.

Jacob Hilla was 2-for-3 with a run scored and three RBI; Budnick was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI and Matt Altman was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI.

Hurons take 2 from Cardinals

WHITTEMORE–The Rogers City softball team dominated a doubleheader against Whittemore-Prescott on Tuesday. The Hurons won the opener 22-12 and the nightcap 20-4.

In the opener, Jayna Hance was the winning pitcher for the Hurons (30-3).

Hance had two hits and an RBI; Kirsten Altman had a hit; Taylor Rabeau had a hit; Hannah Fleming had two hits and an RBI; Taylor Fleming had two hits and an RBI; Sage Wagner had one hit and two RBI; Jordan Schalk had one RBI; Hannah Dittmar had one hit and two RBI; Mary Brege had three hits and three RBI; Amanda Wirgau had a triple and three RBI.

Altman was the winning pitcher for Rogers City in the nightcap.

Altman had two hits and an RBI; Rabeau had two hits, a home run and two RBI; Hannah Fleming had three hits, including two doubles and two RBI; Taylor Fleming had two home runs and five RBI; Wagner had one home run and four RBI; Brege had one hit and Schalk had two hits and two RBI.

Rogers City plays at Alpena on Wednesday.
