Hillman 50,

Fairview 32

FAIRVIEW–The Hillman girls basketball team overcame a slow start and turned the tables on Fairview down the stretch to top the Eagles 50-32 on Thursday.

Fairview led 14-4 after one quarter, but Hillman (11-1, 9-0 North Star League) battled back and outscored the Eagles 13-4 in the second quarter to cut Fairview’s lead to one point at halftime.

“They played three good quarters and we played one,” Fairview coach Marc Winton said. “They’re pretty deep and with them it’s not a matter of if, but a matter of when.”

Hillman took control in the second half, outscoring Fairview 13-6 in the third quarter and 20-8 in the fourth quarter.

Lyndsey Ryba led Hillman with 13 points and Morgan Armon and Eve LaFleche each added 10. Andrea Ford paced Fairview (8-4, 6-4 NSL) with 17 points.

“It was a tale of two halves. Fairview controlled most of the first half, but we chipped away and made some defensive adjustments. Our ball movement was a lot better in the second half,” Hillman coach John Kuzewski said. “Give Fairview a lot of credit. They came out with a lot of energy and kept us on our heels.”
