Steiner leads Alcona to district soccer win

SAGINAW-Jordan Steiner netted a hat trick, Conner McCoy made 35 saves and the Alcona soccer team edged past Saginaw Nouvel on Monday 3-2 to open district play.

The win moves the Tigers to a semifinal matchup against either Saginaw Arts and Sciences or Whittemore-Prescott on Wednesday.

Heath shoots 208 at state finals

ALLENDALE-Alpena High’s Lizzy Heath competed in the Division 2 girls golf state finals at The Meadows at Grand Valley State University over the weekend and finished with a score of 208.

Heath fired a 102 on Friday during the first round and followed up with a 106 on Saturday to finish with 208.

Heath’s score put her in 16th place out of the 18 Division 2 individual qualifiers. Midland Dow’s Stephanie Carras was the top individual finisher with a 139 (69-70). Her teammate Alexis Carras was second with a 145 (76-69).

Hurons compete in

Autumn Classic

RUDYARD-The Rogers City cross country team took part in the Autumn Classic on Saturday in Rudyard.

In the boys race, Phil Grambau was Rogers City’s top finisher, taking ninth place in 19:15. Other Huron finishers included: Jacob Hilla (17th, 19:41); Jacob Showmaker (20:32); Zach Myers (42nd, 21:38) and Daniel Bielas (46th, 22:34).

In the girls race, Emily Malocha finished second in 21:06 to lead Rogers City. Other Huron finishers included: Catherine Belusar (10th, 23:14); Camryn Bullock (27th, 26:36); Shawna Stephens (29th, 27:08); Jasmine Ramus (32nd, 27:41); Maria Schultz (34th, 29:01) and Brooklyn Bober (37th, 30:15).
