SAGINAW-Jordan Steiner scored another hat trick and the Alcona soccer team breezed past Saginaw Arts and Sciences 6-0 in a Division 4 district semifinal on Wednesday.

The win advances Alcona to Friday’s district final at Roscommon against the host Bucks.
“It was a good win and all the kids got to play,” Alcona coach Tim Munro said. “It’s leading up to the district final, which will be a lot different game on Friday.”
Alcona goaltender Conner McCoy made seven saves.
CROSS COUNTRY
Day, 2 others earn
all-BNC honors
GAYLORD-Mitchell Day made up for last year’s disappointment on Tuesday, winning the Big North Conference title at the Gaylord Country Club.
Last year, Day led the race for almost two miles before he was tripped up and fell. He finished 17th and earned second team all-conference honors.
This year he left no doubt about his place among the Big North’s best, crossing the line in 16:02.1. Aden Smith took second place in 16:07.9 and Josh Smith finished fourth in 16:21.4 to give Alpena three first team all-conference runners.
In the girls race, Maddy Boyd and Anna Young finished 15th (20:37.4) and 14th (20:37.1) overall respectively, just missing all-conference status.
The boys team finished third in the conference behind Traverse City West and Traverse City Central. The girls team finished fourth in the conference behind Central, West and Cadillac.
The teams ran excellent races on a tough course finishing with many season bests again.
Alpena will compete next on Saturday at the Gaylord Rotary Invitational.
