Day wins at Jackson Invite; Wildcats post several career, season best times

The Alpena cross country had a fantastic day on Saturday as the varsity and JV teams ran at different meets.

The varsity team ran at the Jackson Invitational among several tough teams.

Mitchell Day had the opportunity to put all of his training to the test and he made the most of it, running a career-best time of 15:13.1 which was the best time performed on the Jackson course in several times. He was followed up by great performances by many team members as well. Other career best times were Josh Smith (16:20) and Dallin Toth )18:31). Season Bests were performed by Clay Donajkowski (18:26) and Avery Burrone (19:04). Day, Josh Smith and Aden Smith came home with medals.

Maddy Boyd led Alpena’s girls team, running a season best time of 20:38. Other season best times were Anna Young (21:35), Molly Dickenson (21:41) and Kaylee Rondeau (21:58).

In Petoskey, the JV runners also hit many season best times. Highlighted performances included Sam Tuscher (19:00), Nate Trelfa (20:10), Ethan Heath (21:46), Katie Foust (24:04), Kiersten Genschaw (25:22), Grace Weaver (24:58), Allison Poli (27:45), Ava Shriner (28:26), Olivia Beach (28:41) and Shelby Sexton (28:52).

Medals were awarded to Garrett McHarg, Sam Tuscher, Jimmy Decker, Kiersten Genschaw and Katie Foust.

The Wildcats will run again at a Big North Conference meet in Traverse City on October 4.
