Alcona soccer team downed by Falcons; Oscoda routs Standish

WEST BRANCH- The Alcona soccer team ended a busy couple of days with a 9-1 loss against Ogemaw Heights on Tuesday.

Jordan Steiner scored Alcona’s only goal and keeper Darren Wrobel made 20 saves.

On Monday, Alcona lost to Gaylord 3-1 and again Steiner was Alcona’s only scorer. Tigers goaltender Conner McCoy kept his team in the game making 26 saves in the losing effort.

On Saturday, the Tigers were in Alma for a tournament and finished second.

Alcona plays Tawas, Alcona and Suttons Bay next week with Tawas up first on Monday in Lincoln.

Oscoda 7, Standish 1

OSCODA-The Oscoda boys soccer team evened its record on Tuesday at 1-1 after beating Standish 7-1 at Oscoda High School.

Oscoda took a 5-0 lead into the halftime break. Damien Effrick scored the game-winning goal when he scored the team’s first two goals in the 13th and 18th minutes respectively. He was assisted by Darius Fulton and Johnathan Febish.

Austin Poland scored the third goal, unassisted, in the 24th minute. Caleb Watson got on the board in the 27th minute with help from Joel Livvix. Fulton picked up a goal in the 36th minute to end the first half scoring. Effrick earned an assist.

Gabe Kellstrom netted both of the Owl goals in the second half. The first was unassisted in the 60th minute. He scored with Livvix’s help in the 62nd minute.

Standish got on the board with a goal in the 66th minute.

Oscoda’s defense was led by Jacob Post in goal. Post made six saves before giving way to AJ Johnson in the 56th minute.

Oscoda will host Caro at 5 p.m. on Friday.

BOYS TENNIS

Alpena competes against BC Central, Flushing

The Alpena boys tennis team faced off against Bay City Central and Flushing on Tuesday, taking two flights against each school.

Alpena’s No. 1 singles player Cam DeCaire beat Bay City Central 6-3, 5-7, 6-0 and beat Flushing 6-0, 6-1. No. 2 singles player Cole Lantz beat Flushing 6-2, 6-4 and the No. 1 doubles team of Logan Pinger and Garrett Dickey beat Bay City Central 6-1, 7-5.
