14U Vulcans finish 7th at Class B Eastern National Tournament

The 14U Moran Iron Works Vulcans traveled to York, PA last week for the Amateur Softball Association Class B Eastern National Tournament where they finished seventh out of 32 teams. The team and family members were driven by team members grandparent on a rented charter bus. A major portion of the bus was paid for by generous and anonymous donations from the Vulcan communities across northern Michigan. The girls got to exchange gift bags with another team from Ohio that had state specific gifts and other items in them.

The action got started early Thursday morning, as the Vulcans defeated the Ohio Vikings Elite by a score of 11-5. In game two, the team earned a 2-0 victory against the Ohio Energy. On Friday afternoon they defeated the New Jersey Fast Pitch Nation by a final of 10-0. Later that evening the team suffered its first loss 7-2 against the New Jersey Ewing Edge. Saturday morning started with an 11-3 victory over the Buffalo, NY U.A. Avalanche. Later in the day they began playing the New York Webster Xtreme and finished up Sunday morning after a rain delay with a 9-7 win. The girls then went on to defeat the Delaware Diamonds 9-6. The final game for the Vulcans was a 2-0 loss in a rematch against the Ohio Energy.

The Vulcans entire roster contributed during the tournament. Precious Delos Santos collected seven singles, two doubles, two RBI and scored eight runs. Kayla Metty added six singles and eight runs. Heidi Walters had six singles, a triple, six RBI and 10 runs scored. Savanna Gapinski recorded six singles, three doubles, a home run and scored six runs. Angela Iott added eight singles, four RBI and five runs scored. Kortney Dunn chipped in with four singles, three doubles, five RBI and five runs scored. Amanda Wirgau added four singles, a double, five RBI and scored four runs. Alissa Bowden collected three singles, a triple, one RBI and three runs scored. Calley Selke had two singles, a double, a triple, two RBI and scored four runs. Kennedy Crawford added two singles, two RBI and scored once. Maggie Wells hit a single, a double, added one RBI and scored twice.
