Letters To Ed :-)

"We've been duped by the Republicans. Kentucky Sen. and minority leader Mitch McConnell in a news conference one day after the election, stated that the single and sole goal of the GOP over the next two years is: to make Barack Obama a single term president. What an arrogant and obnoxious goal and statement. There agenda before the election was to get votes by promising that there first goals were jobs, the economy and health care reform. It seems their goal is to grab power, not to do things for the people that are in need of jobs and or unemployment pay, health care for those that don't have it, and the people losing their homes. This is the same party that wanted the auto plants and their suppliers to go out of business. We are just coming back from what they did to this country, and now we have them back to do the same things to our country again. What a mess the next two years is going to bring to this country. Talk about partisanship." Carl D. Leow Rogers Cit

In its 1970 opinion in Walz vs. Tax Commission of the City of New York, the high court stated that a tax exemption for churches "creates only a minimal and remote involvement between church and state and far less than taxation of churches. [An exemption] restricts the fiscal relationship between church and state, and tends to complement and reinforce the desired separation insulating each from the other." The Supreme Court also said that "the power to tax involves the power to destroy." Taxing churches breaks down the healthy separation of church and state and leads to the destruction of the free exercise of religion.

TAX the 'churches'. They become active in politics, America gains from elimination of Church Welfare.

Duh, 'free'man, the Pope had more to do with the 'end' of the Cold WAR than Saint Ronnie, who sold guns and caused the murder of Central American nuns.

Think that might not pass constitutional muster?

Hey amos57usa, how about the congress passes a law that fines you for not going to church every Sunday? You have no choice in the matter, you go, get a signature from the pastor, and submit that on form 1040-FUBAR so as not to be "taxed" as a penal measure.

President Obama is either the most inept chief executive we've ever elected or he is the biggest liar we've ever elected.

There is no other option.

Your guys have messed up the recovery. Your guys have messed U.S. foreign policy. Your guys lied their way to re election. Your guys lied about every scandal that's been presented to them. Your guys have passed sweeping legislative changes to our way of life based upon LIES. Your guys have fumbled the ball over and over again and will not take responsibility for it. Point a finger and blame someone else, better yet, call them a racist, make up the "war on women" and open your mouth and LIE.

"..Mr.Gorbachev: I would like to be like Jack Kennedy, but I am only a Hollywood actor, Grade B. Tear down this wall, even though I know you already had it in the works and I am only grandstanding..." ~jaxspp~

"Tear down this wall" was a pivotal moment in winning the cold war jax. Under Reagan we spent the eastern block countries into oblivion. The resulting "peace dividend" allowed Clinton and Gingrich to pass balanced budgets.

To characterize Reagan like you did is stupid.

Kennedy had a very short and VERY tumultuous 3 years in office which led us to the Bay of Pigs and Vietnam just to name two.

I can't believe how narrow your view of history is. I mean, you just can't be relying on MSNBC for your "reality in the real world".

Yes it appears Bill Speer is against freedom of expression. Someone should write a letter to the editor and expose that he has illiminated comments.

Unless justice Kennedy swings left the S C will have to determine which silly religions are valid enough to be in charge of health care. Even the pope told the right wing nuts to mind their own business. I like this pope:) How much does it cost to be a catholic?

Income for the rich went up 31% last year and up 0.4% for the poor. It's good to hear the pope attack Reagan's trickle down economy and me and (rumor has it) Jesus agree.

I don't know what your point is, other than the previously discussed one on your noggin. America is the last of the major countries without a central healthcare system, and it shows in our statistics, which has us ranked in the thirties world-wide.

"With all its shortcomings, Obamacare is a step in the right direction; it extends health care - a social right - to millions who up to now have none, and partially curbs the power of the health care industry, while its defeat would set back the struggle for health care for all much longer than I would care to think. That's why the far right is fighting it so hard!

Thus, energizing, uniting, and raising the understanding of ever more people to oppose right-wing extremism in every arena of struggle - not least of which is defense of the Affordable Health Care Act - is the order of the day." (Sam Webb, Communist Pary USA, Peoples World)

"Sam Webb is the national chairperson of the Communist Party, USA, a position to which he was elected in 2000 and then reelected in 2001 and 2005. From 1977 through 1988 he was the state organizer of the Communist Party in Michigan. Earlier, he was active in the labor movement in his home state of Maine"
