Kentucky Sen. and minority leader Mitch McConnell in a news conference one day after the election, stated that the single and sole goal of the GOP over the next two years is: to make Barack Obama a single term president. What an arrogant and obnoxious goal and statement. There agenda before the election was to get votes by promising that there first goals were jobs, the economy and health care reform. It seems their goal is to grab power, not to do things for the people that are in need of jobs and or unemployment pay, health care for those that don't have it, and the people losing their homes. This is the same party that wanted the auto plants and their suppliers to go out of business. We are just coming back from what they did to this country, and now we have them back to do the same things to our country again. What a mess the next two years is going to bring to this country. ANY President taking a vacation during WARtime angers me some. But do you see the hypocrisy of the puissant Priebus all aflutter over Obama on vacation? Bush II took vacations to the tune of 400 days 'off' by this time in his 5th year. Obama 87 days. BOTH during WARtime, of course Bush was the leader of an illegal, immoral WAR under false pretense. The whiny Priebus is complaining to all who will listen about this issue. Not to mention his attempted 'Hollywood' complaint about a Hillary Clinton movie. YOUR GOP.

AbNormy ought to read The Mayflower Compact a time or two. He ought also travel to DC and read all of inscriptions on all the monuments. Then he might realize that we were founded by Christians. He might also realize that it were those Christian values which inspired our founders to make this nation free.

Some workers destroy jobs as well as the companies they work for. Collectively they're called Unions. So, you've got Unions destroying businesses, jobs and government at every level, then you have libbies like NormaRae here who wants everyone to be hating on businesses.

That's a great recipe NormaRae. Run with that. Perhaps you'll create a job in the runnin' shoe business.

Nobo, correct on NO conscience or spirituality in government. BUT, there are a whole lot of Religion based ideas being put forth as American, and a great many are apt, but we see the religious right attempting to force feed us phony what THEY call 'christian' policies as Constitutional realities, when that notion is FAR from the truth.

Workers, fool, EARN a decent wage, if they are fortunate to have an employer who cares, they BUY PRODUCTS, which creates demand, which causes Employers to hire, to keep up with demand, the cycle continues, as if you were not aware of supply and demand, you are not tHAT stupid even though you fail to comprehend, you are so far up the arse of the Corporatists you so wanna-be.

Norm, I still hope for a Constitutional Republic or at least something a lot closer to one than what we are experiencing now. Out of our reach? Yeah, in our lifetimes I think its out of our reach. But our grandchildren . . . . theirs? I'm willing to do everything possible short of taking up arms (been there done that) to work towards a future I'll never see. So I write to my elected officials (Dan hears from me at least twice a month.) have spirited conversation with family and friends. And try to make people aware of what is and what should and could be.

Amos, you are right 100% I will answer for my sins (as will we all) At 17 I turned my back on the peace of religion and adopted the Government into my religion and swore my oath to the God in whom I still believe and by my actions hundreds died, maybe thousands. Why? A family tradition going back over 300 years (that I can account for – probably more.) A tradition that was likely in obedience to a church. Nothing is linear Amos. Life is a tangle of choices and results. That's the freedom. The freedom to choose, to rebel or obey or make a combination of both. And that is the exact freedom that we may lose if Government diminishes religion and all the tradition, fellowship, identity, culture, and community it brings to the table, then inserts itself in the vacuum.

My spirituality includes a healthy respect for the Earth. Many supposedly religious sects are merely exploitive of our planet, with little or no regard for those who follow, our children. The wag we see often in this forum likes to belittle other faiths, and is constantly expressing hatred, which is decidedly NON-Christian and an affront to the Creator.
