Charlie J. Cousineau, 89, of 4751 Hubbard Lake Road, Spruce, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at Tendercare Alpena.
Charlie was born in Alpena on Nov. 9, 1924, the son of the late Rudolph and Ruth (Atkinson) Cousineau. Mr. Cousineau joined the Army in 1943 during World War II serving overseas; and, on April 29, 1949, he married Lucille Peel at St. Michael Church in Flint. Lucille preceded him in death May 27, 1997. Charlie was a press operater at Buick Motors for 32 years, retiring Oct. 1, 1974, when he and his wife, Lucille, moved to the Hubbard Lake area.
Mr. Cousineau was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church where he was a Eucharistic minister, an altar server for funerals, belonged to the Usher's Club, and St. Catherine Men's Club. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus Thunder Bay Council #6851, life member of the Alpena 4th Degree, the 4th Degree Color Corps, and a life member of the Spruce V.F.W. Post 6754. Charlie also was a volunteer fireman for the Alcona Township for 14 years.
Surviving are a sister-in-law, Doveen Cousineau; four nieces, Ruth Ann Wallace of Canton, Ethelyn (Gordon) Loberger of Murray, Kentucky; Patricia (Michael) Major of Alpena, Dianne (Daniel) Moore of Clare; two nephews, Craig (Cindy) Cousineau of Florida, and Christopher (Christine) Cousineau of Wilmington, Ohio; three step-grandchildren, Michelle (Doug) Sankey of Arizona, Michael Robbins of Macomb, Jill Gilliland, Rochester; and one step-great-grandson, Alex Gilliland of Rochester.
Preceding him in death were a stepson, Milo (Janeen) Robbins; sister, Lorine Wallace, and a brother, Rudy Cousineau.
Family and friends may call at the Bannan Funeral Home on Thursday, July 31, 2014, from 2-8 p.m. where full military honors will be accorded him by Alpena V.F.W. Post #2496 at 5 p.m. and with the Knights of Columbus Color Corps standing guard from 6-8 p.m. A joint K of C and parish prayer service will take place at 7 p.m. with a 3rd Degree presentation of the Mass and a 4th Degree Chalice presentation. Visitation will resume on Friday at St. Catherine Catholic Church at 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Rev. Robert Bissot officiating.
