SUTTONS BAY-The Rogers City volleyball team held its own against some of the state's best competition on Saturday, winning the bronze bracket at a tournament in Suttons Bay.
The Hurons (25-8-1) finished 2-1 in pool play after beating Traverse City Christian (25-14, 25-15) and No. 3 Leland (25-19, 25-20) and losing to Charlevoix (26-24, 18-25, 14-16).
Though there was a three-way tie in Rogers City's bracket, the Hurons were placed in the bronze division, where they defeated Northport (25-8, 25-16), Benzie (25-15, 25-13) and Pellston (25-15, 25-18).
"It was very good to see that we were playing up to the level of some of the best teams," Rogers City coach Jackie Quaine said. "I'm really happy with where we're at."
Jena Tulgestke led Rogers City with 37 kills, six blocks and seven aces; Alexa Quaine had 30 kills, 36 digs and four aces; Cassie Brege finished with 100 assists; Courtney Streich had 41 digs, 12 aces and five blocks; Sarah Meredith had 20 kills and eight aces; Megan Quaine had 39 digs and Cassidy Purgiel finished with 12 aces, 4 blocks and 14 kills.
Rogers City hosts Hillman on Tuesday and plays at Atlanta on Thursday.
