Laws aren’t going to stop child molesters

January 22, 2013
The Alpena News

I was reading an article on AlpenaNow.com about a bill that Governor Snyder has signed into law. The new law addresses child molestation and its purpose is to prevent the sexual abuse of children. While the intent is admirable, the reality is that another law is pointless. This is a quote from that article. "Governor Rick Snyder has signed legislation into law that aims to increase education and training in schools to help prevent the sexual abuse of children."

It is a proven fact that no matter how many laws are passed, a criminal, in this case a child molester, is not going to obey that law. The duty, the responsibility and the honor of raising and teaching a child belongs to the parents alone.

If one were to turn to the bible on this matter, Proverbs chapter 22 verse 6 is a good place to begin. "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." To depart from this precept undermines the ability of the parents and literally destroys their authority with their children. Much in the same way that if someone built a house, and removed a critical piece of that structure it will give way to the forces of gravity and collapse in upon itself! This is what happens when we as parents abdicate our authority and our duty to raise up our children in the way they should go.

A child molester does not care one single bit about the law. They are going to do what it they want to do no matter what. Until parents take this responsibility seriously and act according to that which is right and holy in the eyes of God, we are doomed to failure.
