Check the facts on president and gun rights

November 23, 2012
The Alpena News

In Friday's Letter's to the Editor, Rose Raible wrote, "He (President Obama) agreed with the U.N. to go ahead and start with the world control of guns. In other words, gun control for America."

Well someone missed their boat! Its either a typical political scare tactic by a Republican, Tea Party member or, someone who is completely paranoid. The President has not agreed with the U.N. or, made any attempts to attack our Second Amendment Rights. Even if this was remotely true, the National Rifle Association (NRA) would have this all over the National News.

White House Press Secretary, Jay Carney states, 'The President is focused on doing the things that we can do that protect Second Amendment rights, which he thinks is important, but also to make it harder for individuals who should not, under existing law, have weapons to obtain them."

Any minor fact checking, such as www.factcheck.org/ or any other means of checking the facts, will educate those who are paranoid over this issue. According to FactCheck.org, the question of rather President Obama in intending to force a ban Americans or not, is answered by a simple to read and understand, no. It will tell you that the administration plans to negoiate a treaty to regulate the international export of weapons. It continues to state that it will not support any treaty that regulates or infringes on the Second Amendment. Search the facts. By the way, Thank You.
