Alcona routs Buena Vista; Hillman rallies to beat Oscoda

SAGINAW The Alcona football team led 30-0 at halftime and completed the shutout in the second half, beating Saginaw Buena Vista 44-0 Friday night, improving its record to 6-2 in its regular season finale.

Alcona had over 500 yards of offense and got a big night from Nathan Fettes, who had four touchdowns and 232 yards on 16 carries. Cody Franklin threw two touchdown passes in the first half to Josh Mead of nine yards and eight yards respectively.

The Tigers will now wait and see who they will play in the first round of the playoffs after selections are made on Oct. 21

Hillman 30, Oscoda 22

OSCODA Hillman scored 22 points in the second half to come from behind and beat Oscoda 30-22 Friday night on the football field.

David Olshanski scored a touchdown and earned 194 yards on 22 carries. Tyler Jones was 8 -for- 14 through the air for 103 yards and two touchdowns: one to Travis Powers and a 22-yard pass to Josh Reinbold.

"It was a totally different ball game the way the Hillman boys played," Hillman coach Bill Koenig said.

Devin Wojan had 15 tackles for Hillman (4-4) defensively.

Hillman will play Hale next week.


Alpena 41, Petoskey 16

Led by Josh Bell's five-touchdown night, the Alpena High JV football team improved to 6-1-1 on the year with a 41-16 win over Petoskey on Thursday.

Bell accounted for more than 200 yards of offense while catching three touchdown passes, running for one and returning a kickoff for a score.

Tyler Pintar threw three touchdown passes and put up more than 200 yards. Dylan Hoes added a 60-yard touchdown run and tallied more than 100 yards of offense in a great individual effort.

The Wildcats were led up front by Jay Johnston, Dalton McLure, John Mack, Nick Bisanz and Robert Burke, who helped stuff Petoskey's run game and Alpena's defense came up with several big stops as well.

Alpena closes out the season Thursday at Ogemaw.


Alpena finishes 12th at regionals

FLINT-The Alpena High School girls golf season came to a close after the Division 2 Regionals in Flint on Thursday.

The Wildcats placed 12th with a team score of 458. Kelsey Diamond led the Wildcats, carding a 94, followed by Kara Gehrke and Amber Repke with 118 and Natalie Przybyla with 128. Traverse City Central finished in second place and earned a place in the state finals next weekend at Grand Valley.
