The Alpena News

Award-winning, bestselling author Beverly Lewis currently is making 26 stops through the Midwest in promotion of "The Bridesmaid," the second stand alone novel in her series, Home to Hickory Hollow.

With nearly 17 million copies of her books in print, Lewis will greet fans during the 11-day tour and sign "The Bridesmaid," along with other reader favorites, on Sept. 17 at 10 a.m. at Olivet Book and Gift in Alpena.

As one of the top-selling authors in the inspirational market, Lewis is not only the leading author of Amish fiction, but also its pioneer. She created the genre with the release of her first adult novel, "The Shunning," in 1997.

Recent surges in both reader interest and publisher output of Amish fiction have gained national attention, garnering coverage by Time magazine, the BBC World News service, The Wall Street Journal, and Nightline, among others.

"The Bridesmaid" was released to the public Sept. 11. It invites readers to come home to Hickory Hollow, Pa., the beloved setting where the author's celebrated Amish novels began with new characters and new stories of drama, romance and the ties that draw people together.

Twenty-four-year-old Joanna Kurtz is so far proving the adage "always the bridesmaid, never the bride." Yet despite appearances, she has a beau who is secretly courting her from afar. Will her hidden passion for writing and his responsibilities to his family keep them forever apart?

Lewis, born in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch country, is The New York Times bestselling author of more than 80 books. Her stories have been published in 11 languages worldwide. A keen interest in her mother's Plain heritage has inspired Lewis to write many Amish-related novels, beginning with "The Shunning," which has sold more than one million copies and was recently made into an original Hallmark Channel movie.

In 2007, "The Brethren" was honored with a Christy Award. She has been interviewed by both national and international media, including Time magazine, the Associated Press, and the BBC.

Lewis lives with her husband, David, in Colorado. Visit her Web site at for more information.
