Alpena volleyball sweeps Gaylord

GAYLORD-The Alpena volleyball team cruised through two games and then rallied back in the third to sweep Gaylord in a Big North Conference match on Wednesday.

Alpena won the first two games 25-22 and 25-21, but found itself trailing 16-8 in the third game before Taylor Genschaw ran off eight serves in a row that tipped the game in the Wildcats' favor.

Genschaw finished with four aces and 10 kills. Brenna Bourdage had 11 kills, Emma Strong had five kills, Ami Milligan had 28 assists and Alie Sherwin had 15 digs.

BOYS SOCCER

Alcona 1, Oscoda 0

OSCODA-Jared Steiner's goal five minutes into the second half was enough to propel the Alcona soccer team over Oscoda on Wednesday in a Huron Shores Conference game.

Aaron Ritchie had 13 saves for the Tigers (5-1) who will host Standish on Monday.

BOYS TENNIS

TC West 5, Alpena 3

TRAVERSE CITY-The Alpena boys tennis team lost 5-3 to Traverse City West on Tuesday.

Winning for the Wildcats were: Abram Purol at first singles 6-0 and 6-0, Greg Kucharek at third singles 7-6 and 6-3 and the first doubles team of Samyak Harsh and Noah Barney-Steinke 2-6, 6-3 and 6-3.
