A vote for the majority and for the future

You can’t be blamed for wanting to vote with your pocketbook. We are feeling it, at the grocery store and the gas station.

But if you only vote on what today looks like, you forget what the past should teach us.

Roe v. Wade being overturned is a great example. The Republicans were able to bend the Constitution to grab four Supreme Court seats and that new majority overturned a popular law.

The majority of Americans want better gun laws, but with a split Senate, the Republicans can block most laws for reform.

Climate change is rapidly affecting our lives now. Temperatures rise, wildfires are more common, and most of our country is experiencing drought conditions. While Democrats try to address this change, Republicans ignore it.

My point is simply this. Any president (yes, including Trump) would suffer the swings of an economy recovering from a pandemic and the pent-up spending spree and price-gouging it has caused.

What we need to look at is which party wants to legislate what the majority of Americans want addressed. Who will fight for women’s rights, sane gun laws, and to make sure we have clean air and water for our children?

The Republicans have made it clear it is NOT them.

We will survive this recession, and it will hurt for some time.

But recognize that most want some restrictions, not a total ban on abortion, and not to make it criminal, like the Republicans are pushing.

We must recognize that most people want reasonable gun control laws, not that any gun is available to anyone, like the Republicans demand.

We must recognize that clean air and water are not replaceable and we are sealing our fate with inaction.

Vote for the party that is being realistic about our future. Vote Democratic.
