Regarding the letter of Mr. Robert Colarusso, printed on Dec. 4, 2021, “Why is the media so silent on Afghanistan?”

While his letter was accurate and covered many of the catastrophic results of our cowardly retreat from Afghanistan, I would like to add what in my mind was the most cruel event of that whole affair.

The United States of America abandoned thousands of people who were left to the tender mercies of the Taliban. An unknown number of American citizens, some with their families, along with thousands of green card holders and those who agreed to help our troops and were promised safe haven at the end of the conflict with Afghanistan.

For those willing to try the following exercise, some understanding of the massive tragedy we caused will be evident.

Remembering the Christmas season you are celebrating, please close your eyes, clear your mind, and pretend that you and your family are trapped, captives of the Taliban and abandoned by your country with no understanding of when help might come. Done right, you too will wonder why the media is so quiet about Afghanistan.
