Time for a raise for Harrisville City Council

The recent letter to the editor by Mike Westfall (March 23) concerning the City of Harrisville’s decision to allow recreational marijuana sales is a good example of why we have the separation of church and state.

In Mr. Westfall’s mind, the city council should be recalled because a marijuana provisioning center in our area would be the beginning of the end for everything we hold dear. In reality, cannabis use has been widespread everywhere for years and has gained popularity medically. Legalization will erase the black market, garner revenue, and provide responsible adults access to what they have had to sneak around for in the past. It also allows the criminal justice system to focus on serious and violent crime.

Regardless of his apocolyptic visions, city council members are reflecting the choices city residents made at the ballot box and are fully aware of all the implications of allowing recreational sales in the city.
