Help in battle to eliminate Parkinson’s disease

As many as one million Americans live with Parkinson’s disease. Approximately 60,000 Americans are diagnosed each year and this does not reflect the thousands of cases that go undetected. Symptoms vary, but include tremors, difficulty with balance, swallowing, chewing, speaking, and cognitive impartment.

April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month. I, along with the Alpena Area Parkinson’s Support Group, urge our community to support a greater awareness of how Parkinson’s affects those living with the disease and their families.

As I continue my journey with Parkinson’s disease, I exercise daily and keep a positive outlook. As the research and clinical trials continue, a cure becomes a reality in the near future.
