Garden club supports March for Science

The Alpena Garden Club supports the April 22 March for Science. As members of the Alpena Garden Club our mission is to work toward the beautification of the city and to educate others in the care of plants. We are 55 members strong who plant and maintain many city gardens. Using science from the beginning by checking soil samples, using specific plants for specific areas, researching the characteristics of plants then discovering through trial and error the success of our mission, we are aware of how science works in successful gardens. Garden club members know the importance of the scientific method and empirical evidence in our society. We support scientists of all backgrounds, and we want to make science accessible to the public. Our broader goals include taking care of our fresh water lakes, rivers and shorelines, eradicating invasive species and promoting recycling. We encourage others to join us on April 22 to support the science and the scientists of NOAA, to support protection of our environment, and to march for a healthy, beautiful, and clean Alpena.
