I was sad to hear the First Merit Bank (Huntington) in Ossineke is closing Friday, Feb. 17. The bank has been a part of Ossineke for almost 50 years. It shows that the Huntington Bank has no regard for the community of Ossineke or the customers they serve. This affects the elderly the most who are less likely to do online banking and forces them them to travel another 15 miles to bank. Closing in the winter forces them to travel additional miles on bad roads. I was hoping Huntington would at least give the Huntington brand a chance. I realize the manager of the Ossineke branch has done a lot of damage to Ossineke market and evidently Huntington must believe it’s too far gone to save. At least Alpena Alcona Credit Union still believes in the Ossineke market and community they serve.
