Library, museum partnership will aid region

We love collaborations.

Thus, it should come at no surprise that we are excited about the Presque Isle County Sesquicentennial Digitization Project that was announced this week.

The project, which will preserve 150 years of information at the Presque Isle County Historical Museum, is a partnership between the museum and the Presque Isle District Library. The museum’s research and reference materials will be preserved electronically and made available then to the public.

A $15,084 grant to make the project feasible was awarded to the library from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Anne Belanger, library program director and grantwriter, said the grant “offered us an opportunity to collaborate in a meaningful way to address how we could preserve the historical collection of our combined archives.”

We agree.

This collaboration is not only a great thing for Presque Isle County residents, but, because of its unique collection of Great Lakes maritime and lumbering histories — not to mention its Calcite collection — the whole region will benefit, as well.
