Welcome, Brown Trout anglers!

Welcome, fishing teams, to Thunder Bay and Lake Huron for the beginning of another Michigan Brown Trout Festival!

While this year’s festival, the 46th, will look nothing at all like previous ones, the fishing in Lake Huron will be just as good — if not better — than years past.

Yes COVID-19 has forced festival planners to do away with things like the big tent, entertainment, and alcohol. Certainly, the nights of the festival will be unlike those of years past.

But the fishing — which is the whole reason the festival was started in the first place — will continue.

And, like recent years, the fishing promises to be good, if not superb.

We’re anxious to see the success of participants and what ends up being caught this year. Brown Trout Festival organizers maintain this is the longest-running fishing tournament on the Great Lakes.

And, while the star of the show, the brown trout, has faded somewhat in its glory recently, other species, like walleye, have more than made up for fishing stories out there for those who participate in the tournaments.

So, good luck.

Be safe on the water.

And tight lines to each of you.
