Film fest highlights treasure of Maritime Heritage Center

The Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center was abuzz with activity recently for the 2020 Thunder Bay International Film Festival.

The festival brings visitors from across the state and from across international waters to showcase riveting films about our Great Lakes and our oceans.

And it encourages our students to get involved, to think about those precious resources and be creative with their own videos showcasing their importance.

Congratulations to Alpena High School freshmen Clayton Thomson, Nick Lusardi, Amara Vanwagoner, and Brayden Broad, who won both first place and the People’s Choice awards on Saturday with their film, “His Boots Are Empty.”

What the festival really does is highlight the treasure that the Maritime Heritage Center is to our community.

It brings economic activity, the arts, and a focus on preserving our natural resources to our little corner of Northeast Michigan.

And we’re grateful for it.

Congratulations to all of the organizers for another successful film fest, and we can’t wait to see what the Heritage Center does next.
