Hats off to those we trust to keep us safe

You might think that because we’ve had such a mild winter in Northeast Michigan, everyone might have had one eye on the coming spring when Wednesday’s storm hit despite the warnings. And who could blame them.

However, those we trust with our safety and those we trust with the safety of our children weren’t looking forward, they were firmly focused on the events of the day. While no winter event like Wednesday’s ever happens without someone in a ditch or some snow-related issue occurring, recognition should go out to those who did their best to keep everyone safe.

The northern part of our area received the most snow, and started to receive it earlier. Schools there were canceled. As the snow moved into the southern part of our area those schools sent students home early.

Road commissions throughout the area were prepared and had crews out plowing to try and stay ahead of the situation. Law enforcement issued warnings about poor driving conditions and white-outs, and closed roads as conditions continued to deteriorate.

We put our trust in school officials, law enforcement and road crews during times like these and they came through for us on Wednesday.
