Last month it was announced Alpena County Regional Airport was the recipient of $990,000 in federal funding to help with the construction of a new terminal.

For a facility that has experienced lower numbers in travelers compared to previous years, the construction of a new terminal might be questioned.

We, however, would argue the new facility can be justified because it will aid traveler comfort, will improve security at the terminal and will help attract more business to Alpena. A modern airport with dependable service and a variety of choices is an important cornerstone to any community’s economic development efforts. By investing in our local facility, the region is affirming its support for such efforts and demonstrating it wants to improve the customer experiences.

We believe a new terminal will boost customer traffic and aid in future recruitment efforts of more air carriers.

Thus, the funding is very much appreciated.
