MBTF Small Tent Managers say ‘good-bye’

“Thank you again for your past service and for helping us with this transition.” — MBTF President

Despite attending monthly meetings, our tenure never appeared on any agenda and there was no conversation with us. No vote was ever taken, as per the bylaws. To be clear, we did not resign as the Michigan Brown Trout Festival Small Tent Management Team nor were we asked to.

Gerald (Gerry) Lucas of Alpena is a former participant, informal volunteer and a 30+ year Small Tent Manager. Michael (Mick) Kaiser of Alpena and his daughter, Danielle Kaiser of East Lansing, are former formal (via a Club) volunteers, informal volunteers and 7+ year Small Tent Managers.

We enjoy July! For Danielle — Summer in Northern lower Michigan includes a few weeks off of work volunteering at her favorite festival. In a place (Alpena) which isn’t even her hometown. Year after year she looked forward to spending time with family and friends at the boat harbor.

Family dynamics change. It was unlikely we would be returning for 2026 as life was taking us in other directions. But we wanted to go out on top, our way. We wanted to say good-bye to the people who attended our tent, gave their time to fill in hours and shake their hands.

We don’t get that opportunity. Instead, we have to show our respect for the relationships built within the community … anglers, attendees, musicians, sponsors and volunteers … via this letter. Each of you made what we did, our pleasure. Thank You for letting us be a part of your MBTF experience.

Even if you’re ready to be done with something, it’s still an insult to be cut loose.

For the years of friendship and volunteerism, we appreciate you!
