Daniel Paul Belanger, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on Sept. 16, 2024, in his hometown of Alpena, where he was also born on Sept. 29, 1950, to the late Leo and Nora (Prieur) Belanger. His gentle and loving nature touched the lives of all who knew him, leaving a legacy of humor, kindness, and warmth that will be remembered for generations to come.

Daniel graduated from Alpena High School in 1970. After a few jobs, he found his calling at Stoneport, where he dedicated over 30 years of service before his well-deserved retirement. On Aug. 16, 1980, he married the love of his life, Ruth Frank, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and the joy of raising a family. Daniel’s devotion to his family was evident in every aspect of his life, especially in the close-knit relationships he nurtured with each family member.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth; their daughters, Lori (Raymond) Mason, Lisa (Raymond) DeCare, and Karen (Jason) Hippensteel; his brothers, Roy and Larry; and his sister-in-law, Nancy. Daniel’s life was further enriched by the love and energy of his grandchildren: Caleb and Baele Mason; Rachelle Rouleau; McKenna and Logan DeCare; Ariana Belanger, Kayli, and Lillian Hippensteel. He was preceded in death by his brother Mike, grandson Daniel Hippensteel, and sisters-in-law Ellen and Sue.

In his younger years, Daniel found joy in restoring vintage trucks, a hobby that showcased his patience and attention to detail. His love for the outdoors was evident through his passion for fishing and hunting, and he could often be found watching wildlife, a pastime that brought him immense peace and happiness. An animal lover at heart, Daniel’s compassionate spirit extended to all living creatures. Daniel’s life was deeply rooted in his faith as a lifelong parishioner of St. Anne Catholic Church.

Those who knew Daniel will remember him as a man of few words but of profound impact. His loving nature, gentle demeanor, and the quiet strength he exuded will continue to inspire his family and friends. His was a life well-lived, filled with the simple pleasures of time spent with grandkids, the companionship of his wife, and the bonds of a close-knit family.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024, at St. Anne Catholic Church. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial mass at noon with Fr. Gerald Okoli as celebrant. Inurnment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Michigan for their warm and professional care. Memorial donations can be made to the family or to Hospice of Michigan. Arrangement have been entrusted with McWilliams Funeral Home.
