KAREN MARIE (SOIK) FUSSEY

Karen Marie (Soik) Fussey, 71, of Alpena, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family after an extended illness.

Karen was born in Alpena, Michigan to parents Jerome (Harry) and Celia (Haske) Soik. She was the fifth of 10 children. They all grew up on Oldfield Street and attended St. Mary School and church. Karen’s class was the first to graduate from the present Alpena High School. She became a full-time mother and homemaker after marrying Kenneth Fussey on Sept. 28, 1968 and they were married for 52 years. Karen was active in her children’s lives as a girl scout leader and 4-H council member. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, and spending time with her family. Karen is survived by her husband Ken, daughter Brenda (James) Butch of Alpena, son Paul (Soo-Kyung) Fussey of Anchorage, daughter Melissa (Faisal) Mirza of Oklahoma City, her brother Doug Soik of New Jersey, sister Eunice Scott (Richard Kresge) of Phoenix, sister Lucy (Ron) McCabe of Maryland, Bernice Soik of Alpena and grandchildren Andrew, Julia, Claire, Harrison, Simone, Kenny, Zain, Idris, Safaa, and Amaya. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Norbert, Jerry, Gordon, and Mark, and sister Connie Brace.

She has been taken to McWilliams Funeral Home where family and friends may visit on Sunday May 16, 2021 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of private family funeral service with the Rev.
