GARY L. BROWN

The family will greet friends at a public visitation on Thursday, May 13, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Clark Family Funeral Chapel. A private family funeral service for Gary will take place the next day. Gary was born Feb. 9, 1937, in Long Rapids, Michigan, the son of Norman and Louise (Carr) Brown. He was a graduate of Alpena High School with the class of 1953. Gary married Mary Ann LaFleche in Feb. 1954 in Long Rapids. She preceded him in death on Feb. 13, 2005. In his early years, Gary worked as a construction supervisor for several companies and the state highway department building bridges throughout Michigan. He retired as the maintenance supervisor at Mt. Pleasant Holiday Inn in 1999. Gary married Ann (Margias) Knight on Oct. 16, 2009 in Mt. Pleasant. He loved spending time with his family, time in the woods, and visiting lakes throughout Michigan especially Lake Avalon in Hillman, Michigan. Gary enjoyed trail riding, motorcycle riding, and snowmobiling. He liked playing euchre, restoring tractors, and flying remote airplanes. Gary was truly a jack-of-all trades- if you needed it done then Gary could do it. Gary was a member of Mt. Pleasant Eagles #4463.

Gary is survived by his wife Ann Brown of Mt. Pleasant, his children Jerry (Sheila) Brown of Midland, Kenneth (Barbara) Brown of Leesburg, Georgia, MaryKay (David) Grewe of Traverse City, Cathy Brown of Traverse City, Nancy (Ronald) Demock of Flushing, stepchildren Jeffrey (Lisa) Knight of Evart, Kristina (Vinnie) Harvell of Farwell, grandchildren Gerrod (Janice) Brown, Christopher (Kelly) Brown, Joshua Brown, Tracey (Phil) Vanas, Jason Brown, Marcus Grewe, Mollie (Will) Thomas, Michelle O’Brien, Walter Demock, and Margaret (Sean) Farley, five step grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, siblings Patsy (Neil) MacArthur of Long Rapids, Margaret Langoni of Troy, James (Rhonda) Brown of North Carolina, Gloria (Howard) Lumsden of Lachine.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary Ann, grandson Brian James Grewe, sister Joyce (Arnie) Bartz, brother-in-law Don Langoni, and stepson Charles Knight.
