ALVIN ARTHUR LUMSDEN

Alvin Arthur Lumsden, 89, of Long Rapids passed from this life into the arms of his beloved savior on Thursday, April 8, 2021.

Alvin was born in Long Rapids on March 15, 1932 to the late William and Anna (McArthur) Lumsden. He left school in eighth grade to work on the family farm and was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War serving stateside at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Alvin met the love of his life, Marilyn McCarty, on a bus ride to Chicago during his military leave; they married on Nov. 26, 1955. Together they settled in Long Rapids raising two daughters, Elizabeth and Elsie. Alvin worked as a truck driver, a farmer and as a salesman for Primrose Oil company.

He leaves behind his bride of 65 years, Marilyn Jean Lumsden. His beloved daughters Elizabeth (Ruben) Kirschner and Elsie (Scott) Wilson. Grandchildren: Kenneth (Jamie) Kirschner, Suzanne (Clinton) Van Der Westhuizen, Heather (Daniel) Rossi, Joseph (Chelsie) Kirschner, David (Kassi) Kirschner, and Hillary Lancaster (Aaron Sroka). Great-grandchildren: Chara, Javon, Ian, Eli, Benjamin, Joey, Greyson, Charlotte, Abraham, and Isaiah.

Alvin was preceded in death by his dear grandson Dale Arthur Kirschner, his siblings Blanche Lumsden, William “Elston” Lumsden, and Beulah Tucker.

Visitation for Mr. Lumsden will be at the Bannan Funeral Home on Monday from 10 a.m. until the private funeral service at noon with the Rev. Arnie Kirschner officiating. For those unable to attend the funeral, it will be live streamed at bannanfuneralhome.com.

Interment: Long Rapids Township Cemetery

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of Mr. Lumsden to Hospice of Michigan.
