WILLIAM CLAY LEIGHTON

William Clay “Bill” Leighton, age 68, of Hillman, Michigan passed away at home on Monday, July 20, 2020.

He was born on July 11, 1952, in Detroit, Michigan to the late William and Betty (Fockler) Leighton. Bill worked at the East Detroit Post Office as a mail carrier and and chief union steward. He went on to work for AT&T for almost 20 years as an operator for the deaf and hearing impaired. He enjoyed coaching baseball, playing tennis, reading and was known to his friends as “Captain Napo” because of his love for sailing.

Bill is survived by his three children: William L. Leighton of Warren, Michigan; Lindsey (Brendon) Fitzgerald of Peekskill, New York; and Brett (Vicky) Leighton of Clive, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Jubilee, Caius, Thaddeus, Stephanie, Jordy, Raelynn, and Reagan; one sister Cheryl (Tom) Madej of Sterling Heights, Michigan; nine nieces and nephews Jenny, Debbie, Steve, Andy, Becky, Danny, Emily, Sarah, and Mike.

Family and friends will gather for a Grave Side Committal Service at Evergreen Cemetery on Monday, July 27, 2020, at 1 p.m.
