HAROLD D. BARNARD

Harold D. Barnard, age 80, of Alpena, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2020, at home.

On Jan. 24, 1940, Harold was born in Alpena, Michigan to the late Philip A. (a.k.a. Albert) and Gertrude (Morley) Barnard. Harold married Patricia Gallagher on Sept. 19, 1961, at St. Bernard Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Navy and was later called for the Vietnam-Berlin Crises. Harold was a Maintenance Supervisor at the Alpena Housing Commission for 41 years before retiring in 2005. He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, All Saints Parish, the Knights of Columbus Third Degree, D.A.V., formerly active in the Jaycees and the 4-H Rifle Club. He loved his family and God. Harold shared a love for candy with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Patricia and their four children, Bill (Wendy) Barnard of Alpena, Michigan, Lori Brilinski of Alpena, Michigan, Dawn (Patrick) Sullivan of Ozark, Mizzouri, and Tom (Beth) Barnard of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, eight grandchildren, Kara, Sara, Emma, Drew, Lucy, Gwen, Emma, and Lily, one great-grandchild, Matilda, one brother, Robert (Gail) Barnard of Lakeland, Florida, one sister, Phyllis David of Alpena, Michigan, along with several nieces and nephews.

Harold was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert Barnard, the Rev. James Barnard, Richard Barnard and two sisters, Ruth Wahoski, Janice Grenier, and grandchildren who will meet him in Heaven.

Family and friends will gather at Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home for Memorial Visitation on Thursday, July 9, 2020, from 4-8 p.m. with full military honors beginning at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday, July 10, 2020, at Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home from 11 a.m. until the Memorial Service begins at noon with the Fr. James Fitzpatrick officiating.
