THOMAS RICHARD MEDEN

1/20/1966 – 4/29/2020

Former Alpena and Hubbard Lake resident Thomas R. Meden died April 29, 2020 in Mission Viejo, California from complications developed after suffering a workplace accident weeks earlier. Tom was born in Alpena, Michigan to Richard Meden & Patty Jo (Gillard) Meden. He was raised in Alpena and Hubbard Lake, Michigan. He graduated from Alpena High School in 1984 and then attended Michigan State University studying History and Political Science. He moved to Temecula, California in 1999 and was an active member and benefactor of St. Thomas of Canterbury Episcopal Church in Temecula. Tom was employed as a Manager by Walmart for many years, then as a Manager with Harbor Freight Tools. For the last several years he has been employed by Ralph’s of the Kroger Co. Tom was a brilliant voracious reader who could converse detailed historical facts on most any topic, especially world history and U.S. history. He loved watching sports, especially Michigan State games, and was a die-hard Detroit Lions fan. He enjoyed watching his nephew & niece play baseball, basketball, compete in gymnastics & cheerleading. Tom loved books, dogs, nature, Hubbard Lake, walking, classic comic books, going to the movies (especially Superhero movies) and his family and friends. He was a beloved and loyal brother to his sister Christine (Meden) Margulies and brother-in-law Steve Margulies and a devoted and proud uncle to his niece Kameron Margulies and nephew Nicholas Margulies. He is survived by his sister’s family, extended Meden family members, and Gillard family members. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Memorial Service will be held at O’Connor Mortuary Chapel in Laguna Hills, California on Saturday June 20, 2020 at 10 a.m. PST. This service will be available to livestream to family and friends. Details to follow. Thomas will be forever loved and missed. He will eventually be laid to rest in Pleasant View Cemetery, on Gillard Road in Spruce, Michigan.
