FLORENCE ALBERTA WERNER

Florence Alberta Werner, 97, of Posen, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 27, 2020. She was a loving and caring woman who will be deeply missed.

She was born on April 28, 1922 to the late William and Martha (Frederick) Miller in Alpena. Florence was raised on the family farm in Posen. After graduating high school, Florence went on to obtain her teaching certificate from Central Michigan University. On Sept. 27, 1947 she joined hands in marriage to Edwin Werner in Allen Park, Michigan. They went on to raise their five boys there until retiring in 1985. Following retirement Ed and Florence returned to her childhood home in Posen to keep the Miller Centennial farm in the family for one more generation. They were married for 56 years until Edwin preceded her in death in 2003.

Florence was a woman with strong faith in the Lord and was a long-time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Posen. She enjoyed quilting and spending time with her family but her greatest joy came from sharing her faith, her opinion, and her apple pies.

She is survived by her five sons, David (Madeleine) Werner, of Atlanta, Georgia, Gregory Werner, of Williamston, Michigan, Bryce (Kathy) Werner, of Richmond, Michigan, James (Mary Beth) Werner, of Flint, Michigan, and Jeffrey (Michelle) Werner, of Allen Park, Michigan, six grandchildren, Kristina, Alex, Aaron, Allyson, Stephanie, and Ryan, one great-grandson, Thomas, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Arthur (Leona) Miller, William (Agnes) Miller, Rinehart (Maxine) Miller and Rolland (Jean) Miller, two sisters, Gertrude (Adolph) Schroeder and Marie (William) Hill.

Due to the current duress our community is under, a private service for the immediate family will take place at McWilliams Funeral Home. A public memorial service will take place at a later date and will be announced in a future edition of The News. Online condolences may be registered at www.mcwilliamsfh.com.
