GEORGE JOSEPH ILES

George was born Dec. 3, 1937 in Lincoln Park to the late Alfred and Alma (Fries) Iles. George was a man of integrity, a family man who was a mentor to his grandsons. He was also a generous person, always eager to lend a helping hand. George worked for SurfTran in Madison Heights from its inception in 1965 before retiring as VP of Research and Development in 1998. Shortly after retirement George and Joyce moved north to Black River where George built their custom home himself. The move up north allowed George to do more of what he loved most and that was fishing. He also enjoyed basketball, playing bridge and poker, woodworking, gardening, and clearing dead trees from the property.

George is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joyce, his two children, Jon (Suzie) Iles, Etta Louise (Kim) Russell, his brother Thomas (Patti) Iles, five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his sister Marina Wilson.

George is at McWilliams Funeral Home where visiting hours will be held on Friday, Oct. 18, 2019 from 2 p.m. until the time of the service at 6 p.m. Please consider a memorial donation to the Alpena Senior Center. Online condolences can be registered at mcwilliamsfh.com.
